EDUCATION

Roberta’s top priority is improving our public schools. During her time as a leader in the teachers’ union, Roberta delivered on better health care for teachers, smaller class sizes, and improved technical and vocational training for our students, and she will continue this work in the State Senate.

We can trust Roberta to make sure our public dollars only go to where they belong, to our public schools, and not to unregulated private schools.

Roberta’s top priority is improving our public schools. We can trust Roberta to make sure our public dollars only go to where they belong, to our public schools, and not to unregulated private schools.

As a former teacher, Roberta knows first-hand the importance of early childhood education. That’s why she will fight for universal Pre-Kindergarten so that all children in our state are setup for success from an early age. She supports legislation that will cap the ratio of students to teachers in our classrooms in order to lower class sizes and ensure that our students receive the individualized attention they need and deserve.

From her time spent in the classroom, Roberta knows that teachers are the key to our students’ success. She knows that in order to ensure that our students receive a world-class education that will set them up for success, we need to attract and retain the best and brightest educators to our classrooms. As the former President and Chief Negotiator of the teachers union, Roberta understands that in order to achieve that objective, we have to raise teacher pay to the national average.

Roberta wants every student in Nevada to graduate from high school prepared to get good-paying jobs or go onto college. She supports investing in STEM education and expanding access to technical training schools and workforce development programs.

For those students who plan to go to college, Roberta wants to ensure that remains an affordable option. She wants to ensure our students don’t graduate college saddled with crippling debt. That’s why Roberta will fight to keep in-state tuition rates low, protect and enhance the Governor’s Guinn Millennium Scholarship, and work to create a tax-free college savings program to help families save for their kids’ education.
